FOOTPATH WALKING GROUP:
The group meets every second Saturday in the month at 10.00 am at the village green (by the village sign); all are welcome. Walks generally take about 2 hours and are an ideal way to see the countryside and to get to
know the parish. REPORTING FOOTPATH PROBLEMS: For problems with footpath maintenance, obstruction, failure to reinstate etc., please contact the Clerk of the Parish Council on 01787 237832. It helps to be able to quote the path number. The Clerk of the Parish Council has a copy of the definitive map which can be seen by appointment. For an approximate plan of the paths showing the numbers go to path numbers. For paths outside the Parish you may wish to contact the Public Rights of Way officers at Essex County Hall, Chelmsford on 01245 437619. Where possible give the Parish as well as the path number as some numbers are duplicated in neighbouring parishes. |

PUBLIC RIGHTS of WAY: The County Council has a statutary duty to maintain public rights of way. Farmers must restore cross-field paths after cultivation and must not disturb headland paths without permission from the Highway Authority. Landowners must not obstruct Public Rights of Way. FOLLOW the COUNTRY CODE: Enjoy the countryside and respect its life and work. Guard against all risk of fire. Fasten all gates. Keep your dogs under close control. Keep to public paths across farmland. Take your litter home. Use gates and stiles to cross fences, hedges and walls. Leave livestock, crops and machinery alone. Help to keep all water clean. Protect wildlife, plants and trees. Take special care on country roads. Make no unnecessary noise. For more information about walking in the Colne Valley visit Shaun Thomas's web site. This site includes descriptions of several North Essex Circular Walks, with maps. |
