1017. Declarations of interest.
No declarations of interest were recorded by members.
1018. Minutes.
The minutes of the February meeting were agreed as a correct record.
1019. Flood Prevention.
The Chairman referred to a letter, received from County Councillor Mr. David
Finch, in which he reported on a meeting with the Environment Agency that
related to flooding in the Sible Hedingham and Great Yeldham areas.
The letter reported that the Sible Hedingham scheme was already underway.
The proposals for Great Yeldham were that the village was being appraised as
Part of the River Colne Flood Risk Study and options being considered are:-
Upstream storage; improved conveyance by removal of the weir (near Stone
Bridge); improved conveyance by Stone Bridge modification; improved
conveyance by reduction in channel and bank friction; and improved
conveyance by widening. These options will soon be narrowed down for
detailed consideration. Dependent on this decision, works could be funded
from our Operations Delivery Maintenance budget.
Councillor Mrs B. McNeill expressed concern at the lack of progress that
had been made in implementing a Flood Prevention programme in Great
Yeldham and requested that a letter be sent to the Environment Agency,
requesting that the matter should be given their immediate attention.
1020. Service 89 Bus Service.
Following notification of the possible withdrawal of the 0628 Yeldham to Braintree.
Service, the Parish Council made representations to Mrs B. Brewington, (Transport
Liaison Officer), requesting that the service be retained because of the importance to
members of the community in linking with the 7.30 Braintree to London train.
A letter received from Mrs Brewington on the 27th February stated that the Essex
County Council were considering making a replacement service and that the Parish
Council will be informed of any further news.
1021. Correspondence.
Matters of interest were read to the meeting and referred for filing when required.
1022. Planning.
A letter from Mrs. J. Martyn, Area Highway Manager., reporting a request from a
resident to prevent vehicles from being parked at the junction of Leather Lane and
the Croft was read to members by the chairman. Mrs Martyn asked for the Parish
Councils support for a ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ at this particular junction.
The Parish Council voted in support of this proposal and requested that the same signs
be installed in the area surrounding the old Oak Tree junction.
1023. Best kept village competition.
After much consideration members thought that the community sprit was not quite
ready for such a venture and that consideration for an entry next year might be in order.
1024. Accounts for payment were agreed for payment.
The meeting closed at 2110 hrs.
