MINUTES of the MEETING of the GREAT YELDHAM PARISH COUNCIL
held in the Reading Room, Great Yeldham on Thursday 3rd July 2008.
Present were:- Mrs. P. Slimming. (Chairman), Ms. M. Baker ( Vice Chairman), Mr. R. Francis, Mr. I. Spencer, Mr. D. Dyson,
Mr. C. Cumaranatunge, Mr. J. Beckett.
In attendance :- Mr. R. Liming, Clerk to the Parish Council.
Apologies for absence:- Mr. D. Finch, Mr. B. Sargeant, R. R. May.
2170. Declarations of interest.
Mr. I. Spencer declared an interest in agenda item seven. Planning Application No 08/01158/FUL
and retired from the meeting for the duration of the agenda item.
2171 The minutes of the June 2008 meeting were approved as a correct record.
2172 Correspondence received by the Parish Council relating to information and future dates of
importance, were read to members and referred for filing when appropriate.
2173. Planning Applications.
Application No 08/01158/FUL. Demolition of existing conservatory and erection of new unit.
Mr. I. Spencer declared an interest for this item and retired from the meeting.
No objections recorded from members.
Notice of appeal on application no 07/01023.FUL was noted by members. The clerk was instructed
to write to the Planning Inspectorate recording objections.
2174. Highways Committee Report.
Councillor Cumaranatunge informed the meeting of the highway Committee's discussion on possible
improvements to the E.C.C. owned land, used by residents as a parking area, adjacent to the Police
Station. Three options were suggested, One, the E.C.C. to erect bollards and block the site, but it
was felt that this would defeat the object of the exercise. Two, To install a waiting limit. This would
stop the sale of second hand cars and prevent permanent parking. Three. To build the planned
parking along the Whitlock Drive. The Highways Committee were in favour of the waiting limit
and felt that the Parish Council should make a decision, and then request the help of County
Councillor Mr. David Finch.
The clerk was requested to find out more information on a report of extra traffic on our roads
created by a firm operating from Haverhill, distributing food and drink on a 24 hour, seven day per
week programme.
2175 Village Fete update.
Mr Francis informed the meeting that everything was now in place and, weather permitting, everyone is confident of a most successful day.
Mr Francis highlighted various invoices that the Parish Council will be receiving, which will be
within the £500.00 grant made by the Parish Council to finance the fete. A request for the
installation of a replacement Dog Bin, by the main road side of Bowtells Meadow, to be completed
by Fete day. Members authorised the purchase of a new bin for the sum of £79. 00.
2176. Recycling Collections.
The Braintree District Council Environmental Health department informed the Parish Council of
their intention to commence, in the immediate future, alternate weekly wheeled bin collections.
Members expressed their concern at the difficulties many of the residents will have in handling
the bins and requested a public meeting, together with B.D.C. officers.
It was resolved by members that £90.00 be allocated for printing flyers giving notice of the
intended meeting and the sum of £50.00 be paid to the local Scouts for delivering them.
2177. Wind damage to trees in the Burial Ground.
It was agreed by members that the clerk obtain quotations for treatment to damaged trees.

2178. Accounts for payment for the month of June 2008 were approved by members.
