INVOLVING the SCHOOL and the CHURCH in the COMMUNITY.
Village residents may be willing to give the benefit of their particular expertise to the school - discuss feasibility with Head.
Perhaps the School could take out advertising space in the 4 Villages Magazine (flyers generate waste). While this may not be of direct
financial benefit to the school (as the invoices come from ECC), it can help keep the community together. The Cottage Garden Society Annual
show is held at the school each autumn and includes special entries from the school classes.
In the past the Church was more of a focus for the community than it is now. We should be aware that some residents may have reservations
about particular faith-based activities though such traditional events as Fetes and decorating the Church with flowers have a general appeal.
IMPROVING COMMUNICATIONS within the VILLAGE.
Web site. This is being considered by the Parish Council.
IMPROVING ACCESS and SAFETY for DISABLED PEOPLE.
The Reading Room received Lottery Funding, had a store room into a disabled toilet facility and an access ramp built on the front of the
building in early 2005.
The Sports Ground Management Committee has purchased the appropriate set of compliant sanitary ware for a disabled toilet facility.
It is desirable to install this and an access ramp soon though the building is not open to the general public. Progress depends on volunteer time to organise
and on funding.
We are seeing more provision of access ramps to shops in local towns, but not so much in the village. Soon this is likely to be enforced.
Where business or services are provided to the general public, under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, various 'reasonable provisions' have
had to be made. These were extended from October 2004. For more information contact the helpline of the Disabled Rights Commission, tel: 08457 622 633,

The footpath to the Sports Ground ends at the High Street next to the Police Station in a set of steep concrete steps. The Parish Council has
this matter are in discussion with BDC (Feb 2005).
INVOLVING YOUNG PEOPLE in the VILLAGE.
Using the 4 villages magazine. Youth groups could make more use of the village magazine.
Youth council sounds a good idea, but it depends on willing organisers to make themselves known.
IMPROVING FACILITIES and ACTIVITIES for YOUNG PEOPLE in the VILLAGE.
The old surgery for youth entertainment. This could involve considerable funding to set up and run.
Availability of the site is uncertain. Ideas could be presented to the Parish Council.
The need for an internent 'cafe' has been mentioned, with the suggestion of part of the Reading Room as a site, this would also need
considerable thought.
The Sports Ground Committee and the sports clubs could look into providing more sports coaching at the Sports Ground.
Shelters for children at Bowtells Meadow and the Sports Ground. The Old Pumping shed at the sports ground has been suggested, but with more
of the sides removed for greater visibility (for safety).
