POLICING.
  • The new Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) spends part of her time in Great Yeldham. She patrols on foot and keeps close eye on the young people.

    STREET LIGHTING.

  • Some parts the village are badly lit at night and would be safer with more lighting. It is extremely costly to add extra lights. There could be a conflict here with the wish under Action plan 'A', the environment, to avoid or reduce light pollution of the sky.

    ROAD and PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS

  • Where these involve 'hard' engineering they are very costly and will require long continuous pressure to have changes made.
  • Pedestrians are at considerable danger from traffic where they cross the road at or near the junction of North Road with Leather Lane, and also when walking along Tilbury Road. This is a narrow road with no pavements, mostly with steep banks and no verges to step on to. It involves blind bends and fast traffic. The 30 mile an hour limit stops just before some of the worst parts. It is very risky for parents with small children in prams. In Sept. 2005 it was rated 18th of the outstanding schemes for new footways on the BDC Local Transport Plan.

    SAFETY IN OPEN SPACES

  • Residents have been concerned by safety of children from attack at the Sports Ground. This is a larger open area bordered in parts by belts of trees and shrubs. It is good for wild life but more suitable for teenagers than for young unattended children. The Sports ground Committee are concerned at the overgrowth of hedges beside the path to the Sports Ground.
  • The childrens' play equipment in the corner of Bowtell's Meadow is in plain view from all sides as are Whitlock's Green and the green at the Croft.
